It's been a great week for Mommy and Baby Z. The sun's been shining, the weather's been warmer and a lot of things are just falling into place for Mommy, which lets her enjoy a lot more moments in the pregnancy.
Next Friday, we have our "BIG" ultrasound. I'm honestly equally as excited to find out what gender Little Baby Z is as I am to see that he/she is growing and developing as he/she should be. Just another week!
In the meantime, here is a peek at what the baby has been up to...
How your baby's growing:
Your baby's sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don't be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.
Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.
Oooh, back to fruits with the tomato reference, I see. I can't believe Baby is already six inches long (and I never thought I'd be saying six inches was big!), considering my first e-mail as a mommy-to-be said Baby was the size of a poppyseed. Amazing.
I've been talking to the baby almost since the beginning, so I guess we'll see how true their hypothesis that babies can recognize sounds they heard in utero is when he/she comes out in a grand entrance. Also... does Eminem count as "singing a happy tune?" :-)
This experience just gets more and more fascinating every day.
The best part about today, though? It's possibly Milkshake Thursday. Wooooo!
