I can't even imagine...

Every now and then, a work story touches me in ways I can't hide or deny.

One of the greatest has been my "journey" with Heather Miller, a beautiful 11-year-old local girl who has battled cancer bravely and maturely for the past 15 months. She never lost her enthusiasm and her family never lost their strength.

I wrote about her friendship with a Pittsburgh Steelers player, her Make-a-Wish day and an appearance on the Today Show late last year.

And today, I wrote about her passing.

She did NOT lose her battle.

She passed away late Friday night in her mother's arms and I have been reading posts from her mother these past 24 hours, yet again amazed by the strength and simultaneously grateful for the end of little Heather's suffering and yet very, very sad at the void in the world without her presence.

I hope you'll take a few minutes to learn about her story and keep her and her loved ones in your thoughts.

This must be any mother's nightmare.
At this moment in my life, I can barely fathom the thought of it.

  1. Oh, I was crying this morning reading the story ... poor Tyler didn't know what he was in for for our wake-up call, haha.

I thought she'd been doing better. We had Martin Garrett on the Father's Day makeover last year weeks after Eli's death and were amazed by his ability to go on living his life.
