Tall like his daddy

We had our first of hopefully not many weekly visits with the doctor Friday and it went great.

We had Dr. L, who I've been calling Doc Cheerleader for her REALLY peppy personality and high-pitched squeals. Dr. L was a little more tame today and was really thorough and calming for parents who are just about to boil over with excitement.

Without going in to too much detail, we had our first internal exam since the beginning of the pregnancy. Really, there were two goals to that: to do a quick test for Group B Strep (different from Strep Throat... it's an infection that 25 percent of women have and it's no big deal to them... but it is a big deal to baby during delivery, so knowing you have it just allows the docs to administer an antibiotic during deliver) AND to see if anything's going on down there (dilation, effacing, etc.)

The results of my test will be available at next week's appointment.
And basically, we're not ready for anything to happen quite yet.

Baby's heartbeat was at 128, which is good for this time frame because babies' heartbeats typically decrease at the end of the pregnancy. (Anything between 115 and 160 is good, Dr. L. said).

Mommy's heartbeat was 100 over 70, so still really good!!!

Baby also is head-down (yay!) and will likely stay that way for the rest of the time. His head is way down low, with his spine curling up my left side of my belly, butt almost near the top center area, then legs and arms curled up in the fetal position, with his feet just under my right ribs. He hasn't lowered yet, but that will probably happen in the next week or two.

Because he hadn't lowered, the doc wanted to be positive about his position, so we got to enjoy a couple of minutes of the dinosaur ultrasound machine in the room. We saw his face... eyes and nose!... neck, spine, stomach and bladder, little legs and feet.

Dr. L was able to estimate his size. She said he's reeeaaaaalllllly long and probably weighs about 5 1/2 pounds. Babies grow about 1/2 a pound a week from here on out, so if we go five more weeks until our due date, he could be about eight pounds. We'll just have to wait and see...

And if you haven't noticed the time, yep, Mommy can't sleep again. We'll see if we can get a 5:30 a.m. nap in. :-) Right, Baby Z????

Have a great weekend... we're looking forward to a visit from Favorite Cousin Dan!
