Passenger update -- Week 27

Holy canoli! 27 weeks already!
Welcome to my world of disbelief, where a 40-(ish)-week pregnancy has absolutely flown by so far.

Things are going very well -- I still feel great. Speaking of "feeling", the little man is moving ALL the time. Scott's felt him move twice now, including last night before bed and I can't tell you how big his eyes get or how happy he looks when that happens.

Certain things are getting harder to do...
Like stopping eating. haha. I'm heading to get my blood and glucose tests done and I can't have any big meal or any sugar (psh, what?!) so my stomach is ALREADY grumbly. It's going to be a long morning.

I can't put on socks or tie shoes without tilting my hips at such a weird angle to the side or practically rolling forward in a somersault.

Nothing non-maternity fits me. My regular (albeit larger) T-shirts look funny because they stick out a few inches at the bottom of my belly and barely make it to my pants.

The leg muscles continue, although they have improved after introducing even more potassium and calcium into my diet. (And insane amounts of fruit, too (my latest craving if you will)!)

Mood swings ? What mood swings?! Moving on...

Our little guy is doing great, too, it appears...

This week, your baby weighs almost 2 pounds (like a head of cauliflower) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with her legs extended. She's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing her eyes, and perhaps even sucking her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. While her lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if she were to be born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don't bother her, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.

Your Baby in Week 27 of Pregnancy
For a baby, it's time to trade in the old crown-to-rump measurement for a new head-to-toe standard. So what are your baby’s stats this week (which, coincidentally, is the end of the second trimester)? Fifteen inches — more than a foot long — and triple (or even quadruple) what it was in week 12. His weight is creeping up the charts as well, coming in at just over two pounds. More big news: Your baby may recognize your voice by now, so feel free to serenade your belly (start learning those lullabies!).

I'm so proud of my little cauliflower and hope he continues to do well. I can't wait to meet him.

PS -- Scott keeps promising to do the blog post about why we chose Little Man's name, so keep patient, we've been really busy lately.

We're off to NJ for a weekend !
